To avoid waiting on the day of your arrival, remember to have your administrative file established in advance on the day of the consultation when the date of your hospitalization is set. You can do this by contacting the medico-administrative referent of the department where you will be hospitalized.

Your goods and valuables
It is strongly discouraged to bring valuables (jewelry, credit cards, checkbooks, cash, etc.) to the Hospital of Poitiers.
The Poitiers University Hospital is not responsible for the goods kept by yourself (not deposited in the safe).
Cell phones, computers, tablets, etc. remain under your full responsibility.
You can deposit your valuables in a safe deposit box at the Treasury, if you ask the staff.
Your valuables will be returned to the service, if you request it the day before.
Otherwise, you can collect your objects at the Hospital Treasury (Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., except Wednesday afternoon)
Terms and conditions of hospitalization
Traditional hospitalization
You are staying in the hospital. You spend at least one night in the hospital.
Weekday hospitalization
You are hospitalized from 2 to 5 days during the week (from Monday 8am to Friday 4pm approximately).
Daytime hospitalization
Your admission, treatment and exit are all done on the same day. This method of care avoids you spending the night in the hospital.
Outpatient surgery unit
It allows patients to stay less than a day in the hospital while benefiting from optimal care conditions.
Home care
It allows important medical and paramedical care to continue in the patient’s home.
The team that takes care of you
Your care is provided 24/7 by multidisciplinary teams. The department that receives you is under the responsibility of a head doctor and a health care executive. You can identify them by their badge.
Other health professionals contribute to your care and the quality of your stay: administrative personnel, social worker, medical secretary, ambulance driver, stretcher bearer, nutritionist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, radio operator, psychologist, technical staff, security staff.
The first and last name and qualification of each professional are visible on their work clothes. A colored box also indicates the professional category of this person.
Doctors
The head of the department is the doctor responsible for the medical activity and the functioning of the service. They collaborate with hospital practitioners, heads of clinics, attachés and interns (doctors in training), to ensure your care and provide you with medical information.
Midwifes
They take care of you in the gynecology-obstetrics service.
The health care executive
He is responsible, in collaboration with the head doctor, for the functioning of the department, the organization of care and its quality. Do not hesitate, as well as your family, to contact him for any information concerning your care or the conditions of your stay.
Nurses
They ensure a permanent presence with you to provide care related to your health condition.
Caregivers and childcare assistants
They ensure, in collaboration with the nurse, the midwife or the nursery nurse, the hygiene and comfort care.
Hospital services officers
They assist the caregivers in hotel tasks and are responsible for the hygiene of the facility.
Students
As the Poitiers University Hospital has a teaching activity, students in medicine, nursing or paramedical professions are brought to participate in your care under the authority and control of the heads of department and health care executives. If you wish, you can object to their presence during visits.

You are asked to bring your personal belongings (pyjamas, robe, slippers, napkins…) as well as your laundry and toiletries (gloves, towels, soap, toothbrush, dental prosthesis and glasses case…).
Your family will take care of your laundry. At the maternity hospital, bring the necessary items to dress your baby.
Meal
The restaurant service proposes to you each meal a menu and a menu composed of a variety of healthy dishes adapted to your diet. The cooks and dieticians, who work in collaboration with the establishment’s Food and Nutrition Liaison Committee (CLAN), prepare the menus. All the preparations are made in the central kitchen by the team of cooks of the University Hospital of Poitiers, in optimal hygiene conditions.

Accompanying persons who wish to have their meal in a hospital service must make a request to Happytal.
The staff restaurant is also open to accompanying persons. It is located on the 11th floor of the Jean-Bernard Tower and is open Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
On weekends, meal vending machines and a microwave are available in Jean-Bernard, on the 11th floor, hallway C. Payment is by token.
Restaurant tickets and tokens are on sell from Monday to Friday at the Outpatient Registration Desk on the first floor of Jean-Bernard. Payment terminals (only by credit card) are also available on the ground and 11th floors of Jean-Bernard and Aristide-Maillol.
Cafeterias offering a fast food service are also available on the 11th floor and in the Jean-Bernard hall. You will also find one in the atrium of the regional cancer center. These areas are open every day of the week
You will also find vending machines for drinks, sandwiches and sweets in the halls or in the relaxation areas of the different buildings.
Shops and services
Kiosks located in the Jean-Bernard Hall and in the atrium of the Regional Cancer Center offer newspapers, magazines, cards, stamps and candy.
You can have the press brought to your room by the team of your hospitalization service if you are in Jean-Bernard (make the request the day before with the staff), or by your family.

Cultural activities
Library
Hospitalized persons and their families can come to borrow books, audio tapes or CDs and read the press and magazines.
The loan is free.
Librarians are also available for bedside visits around the hospital. You can reach them at station 44 120 (free-call).

Teenagers space

Games library
The games library is a play area for hospitalized children and their families. This place is full of board games, paints, crayons, salt dough…
Activities (pastries, movies, etc.) are also proposed from time to time..
For children immobilized in their room, do not hesitate to borrow games through the nursing staff. Information at 45 692. An early childhood educator can visit the rooms.

Hospital public school
The University Hospital School, created in 1989, offers a solar follow-up to young people from 3 to 17 years old and ensures a link with their original establishments (schools, colleges, high schools). Teaching is provided by two school teachers in classrooms or at the bedside of immobilized children and adolescents. To benefit from their intervention, call 45 556 before 9:30 am or leave a message on the answering machine.
Reception of your loved ones
The opening hours are posted in each department.
By medical decision, visits may be limited or forbidden.
If your state of health and the organization of the service allow it, your loved ones can stay with you during the night, and one of your loved ones can obtain, depending on the possibilities of the service, a bed to spend the night in your room.
Recommendations for your loved ones :
- Don’t bring too many people;
- Avoid bringing young children;
- Be discreet;
- Potted flowers are forbidden. Cut flowers are to be limited and forbidden in certain cases;
- Leave the room during care or medical visits;
- The family may, if they wish, meet with a doctor during an appointment. For more information, please contact the health executive or the department secretary.
Your loved ones can also enjoy their meals with you by choosing one of these options:
- order a meal tray to the health care executive;
- staff restaurants open to accompanying persons during the week (on the 11th floor of Jean-Bernard and in Aristide-Maillol);
- vending machines with meal trays and microwaves available on weekends (11th floor);
- cafeterias every day of the week: on the 11th floor and in the Jean-Bernard hall, as well as in the atrium of the regional cancer center.
Meal tickets and tokens on sale during the week at the outpatient department (cash payment). You can also use the payment terminals located in these three buildings: The Jean-Bernard hall, the cancer center and the Aristide-Maillol pavilion. Please note that these terminals only work with a credit card.
La Maison des familles (the house of families)
If you wish to sleep near the hospital, you can call on La Maison des familles.
This structure, handle by “La Maison des familles” association, allow to those who live far from Poitiers to stay with their child, partner or friend hospitalized in the hospital.
The financial participation of families and accompanying persons is adapted to their resources.

Religious services
Hospital users have the right to express their religious beliefs within the limits of respect and the neutrality of the public service, its proper functioning and the requirements of safety, health and hygiene.
The ministers of the various religious denominations can visit you, if you express the wish to the health care executive.
The Catholic and Protestant chaplaincies provide a permanence and regular visits in the services. Contact them at the following numbers :

Places of contemplation are available at Jean-Bernard (11th floor), Aristide-Maillol (ground floor), René-Le-Blaye (chapel) and at the regional cancer center.
The health care team will talk to you to anticipate your departure and ensure continuity of care. Everything will be done to respond appropriately to your needs.
If your health condition requires it, the transfer to a convalescent or rehabilitation establishment will be organized.
In the same way, all measures will be taken to allow a return home in the best possible conditions (implementation of assistance if necessary).
If you wish to leave the establishment against medical advice, it will be asked to complete and sign a specific form and you will be informed of the risks incurred.
Exit procedures
Ask for any documents relating to your hospitalization that you may need from the medical and health care team of your hospital service (report, medical certificate, transport voucher, work stoppage, personal medical documents entrusted to the doctors on your arrival…).
Make sure you don’t forget anything in your room. Remember to collect any valuables left at the treasury on your arrival. For this, it is advisable to contact the health care executive the day before your departure so that a treasury agent can be notified.
Transports
Medical transport is a medical prescription.
Reimbursement is not systematic. It is up to you to choose the provider of your choice and to ensure that the company has the vehicle prescribed for you.
If the distance is upper 150km, a request for prior agreement with the Caisse primaire d’assurance maladie is mandatory
The release of minors
Minors may not go out alone. If the legal representative cannot be present, he/she must provide written authorization to the person taking the outing.
An ID will be required
Documents that can be given to you
- a status report;
- a prescription: if the prescription includes medication that is not available in the city pharmacy (the pharmacy of the CHU of Poitiers, under the conditions of proof, will be able to deliver them to you);
- a liaison sheet: to ensure continuity of care at home;
- an exit questionnaire that allows you to express your views about your stay.
Coordinated care path
To facilitate the procedures concerning the financial coverage of your stay or your consultation, you must communicate to the medico-administrative referent the coordinates of the attending physician that you have declared to your Social Security organization.
if you haven’t made this declaration, a 40% penalty per procedure performed (up to a maximum of 10 €)
will be applied to you without any possibility of reimbursement by the mutual insurance companies.
Public sector consultations
Each service has a public consultation area.

To benefit from the third-party payment system used by certain mutual insurance companies, remember to present your valid social security card and your mutual insurance card. You will not have to pay the copayment
In case of non-presentation of supporting documents, the services will be charged to you.
Liberal activity

You have specifically requested an appointment for consultation in the private sector and you clearly specify this to the secretariat, which tells you the cost of the consultation.

You wish to be treated personally by certain physicians or hospital surgeons during your hospitalization.
The practitioner must provide you with all the necessary information regarding the supplement not reimbursed by the health insurance and remind you of the total amount of the consultation.
The organizations will reimburse your expenses up to the conventional rates in effect, unless you have a mutual insurance plan that provides special benefits.
The assignment of a private room is not systematic in the private sector.
Costs related to the stay
The hospital stay is not free of charge, so it is essential for the hospitalized person to be aware of this information in order to take the necessary steps for the financial coverage of the stay.
The operating costs of the Poitiers University Hospital are largely covered by the health insurance funds. However, part of the cost of the stay is payable by the patient.
At the patient’s charge :
Copayment
Its purpose is to contribute to the annual expenses of the hospital in providing inpatient care.
Patients with social security
You owe the copayment to the hospital which is equal to 20% of the daily rate.
If you have a complementary health insurance (mutual or insurance company), it will cover the co-payment.
The remaining 80% is directly charged to the Health Insurance on presentation of the “carte vitale” (an update terminal is available at the entrance of each department and in the reception hall of the “Jean Bernard” building).
There are several cases of exemption from copayment:
- stay of more than thirty consecutive days;
- stay related to a long-term illness. In this case, it is necessary to present the protocol of care relating to the long-term illness to the doctor (or to the secretary/medical-administrative referent) in order to determine whether or not the hospitalization is covered at 100%.
- recipient of state medical aid;
- recipient of maternity insurance (from the sixth month of pregnancy and for twelve days after delivery);
- newborn, if hospitalized within the 30 days after of birth;
- victims of work accidents and professional diseases (when the hospitalization is attributable to the work accident or professional disease);
- military pensioner;
The copayment of 24 euros is due when one of the procedures performed exceeds an amount of 120 euros. The exemption applies under the same conditions as above.
Patients without social security
The daily rate is entirely at the patient’s expense and must be paid before admission, except in the case of a life-threatening emergency certified by a CHU practitioner
Daily rate
The daily rate (20 euros per day) is meant to cover part of the expenses related to the accommodation: laundry, restaurant, maintenance of the facilities…
Patient with a complementary health insurance
You need to check if your complementary health insurance covers the daily rate, and if so, for how long (some organizations only cover a limited number of invoiceable days per year). This information can be obtained from your complementary health insurance company. If your complementary health insurance covers the daily rate, you will not have to pay in advance.
Long-term illnesses are not eligible for exemption from the daily rate.
Patient without a complementary health insurance
The daily rate is entirely at your charge.
Supplement for particular regime
The University Hospital of Poitiers establishes a particular regime of full time hospitalization and part time hospitalization.
For your comfort, and as soon as you are hospitalized at the University Hospital of Poitiers, you can benefit from a single room subject to availability in the service. You will then be asked to pay a contribution to the ” Particular Regime ” according to the tariff in place.
This supplement may be covered by your health insurance policy. If you are admitted in a double room, no extra charge is applicable
Patient without a complementary health insurance
The daily rate is entirely at your charge.
Invoicing and payment terms
If there are any remaining costs, an invoice will be sent to your home address. It must be paid upon receipt.
It is also possible to pay on site at the Hospital Treasury (on the first floor of the Agora building).
Opening hours: Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday from 9am to 12:30pm and from 1:30pm to 4pm, Wednesday from 9am to 12:30pm. Closed on Wednesday afternoon
If the payment is not made within the time limit, you may be subject to financial proceedings by the Treasury.

You should contact the social worker on the service where you are hospitalized in order to be supported in your efforts. Depending on your resources, you may be eligible for:
- the basic universal health coverage (called CMU in France) which will give you the right to health insurance benefits;
