The medical oncology department of the regional cancerology center provides course programs on cancer for medial students at the medicine and pharmacy faculty of the University of Poitiers. In addition, the medical oncology department regularly trains, in its facilities, ten medical students (whatever their year of study).

The medical oncology department also participates in continuous training and post-university teaching programs for general practitioners of the Poitou-Charentes region at the Poitiers medicine and pharmacy faculty. In addition, it trains paramedics and other caregivers in the framework of a dedicated university diploma program (DU) in cancerology carried out at the medicine and pharmacy faculty of the university of Poitiers.

RESEARCH TASKS

The medical oncology department carries on research in cancerology. Its activities consist first in clinical research, and second in basic research.

As regards basic research, the medical oncology department of the regional cancerology center has two major research themes, brain tumors and prostate cancer, and carries out its activities in collaboration with the laboratory of oncology and hematological biology and the department of anatomy and pathological cytology.

As regards clinical research, the medical oncology department includes 9 clinical research associates. Our patients can participate in clinical trials at every stage, starting from the earliest  (phase I) up to  pre-registration (phases III-IV).
Participation in clinical trials provides our patients with access to new molecules, which have yet to be marketed.
