Treatment

Ophthalmology emergency services are open 24h/24, 365 days a year.

From 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. they are treated on the ground floor of Jean Bernard (consultations d’ophtalmologie) at 05 49 44 43 27;
After 5 P.M.,  please address the general emergency services at 05 49 44 44 88.

Appointments can be made by telephone, or by sending mail to the doctor.

Ophthalmology is the medical branch tasked with treating diseases of the eyes and its surrounding organs. It is at once a medical and a surgical specialty.

The ophthalmology department of the Poitiers CHU is able to treat all ocular pathologies:

  • pathologies of the anterior segment of the eye: cataract, corneal diseases, keratoconus, glaucoma, ocular surface disorders,
  • retinal diseases: 
    • Medical retinal pathologies: age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, high myopia, retinal dystrophies (pigmentary retinitis, Stargardt disease…)
    • Surgical retinal pathologies (epiretinal membrane, macular hole, retinal detachment…)
  • orbito-palpebral pathology: lacrimation, palpebral tumors, ectropion, entropion;
  • childhood diseases : cataract, glaucoma, strabisme (squint), genetic diseases;
  • refraction disorders : hypermetropia, myopia, astigmatism;
  • neuro-ophthalmology,
  • inflammations and infections : uveitis, herpes, corneal abscess.

 

Consultations

Please bring all recent documents on your ocular disease (angiographies, fields of view, scanner, MRI, prescriptions, letter from doctor)..

The consultation may take place in several stages:

  • for children: initial orthoptic eye exam; followed by consultation with the doctor;
  • for patients about to undergo an operation: surgical consultation, followed by consultation with a coordinating nurse who establishes the documents pertaining to hospitalization and pre-anesthesia consultation;
  • for patients participating in a clinical study: medical consultation, followed by an interview with a clinical research assistant;
  • for adults: The orthoptic exam will precede the medical exam, carrying out field of vision and/or corneal topography and/or optical coherence tomography (OCT).
